Ministry Update September 2019                        Seek first the Kingdom of God… (Matt. 6:33)

Dear Friends,

Chi Miigwetch, (Big Thanks) goes out to all of our faithful supporters.  Thank you for the encouraging notes cards, letters, prayers, support and service at camp.  Smoky Trail (S.T.) 2018 produced many challenges, questions and concerns.  Although in the end the Lord led us out on a high note, on top of the mountain.  Much prayer was needed going forward.

As the months went by and we continued to seek the Lord’s will for His work at S.T. prayfully bringing our concerns and questions to Him.  He began to give us some amazing answers.  All the while we continued asking for shalom-peace that only He can provide.  S.T. 2019 began to come together in ways that could only have been of Him.

Smoky Trail 2019 saw 30 plus staff and volunteers from 13 different Christian assemblies from around Ontario.  Staff arrives at camp the day before the campers arrive.  The first night we had a special time of prayer that was led by 2 community pastors that work with Indigenous families in the Parry Sound area.  It was a wonderful time of seeking a deeper spiritual understanding as a group of how to best live out loud as Christians for the campers, for ourselves while most importantly glorifying God and listening for His “still small voice.”  I believe this truly helped us come together as one for Him with a renewed trust and confidence that God is in control, that He who promised is faithful until the end.

Smoky Trail 2019 saw many campers who at their young ages are dealing with much brokenness and despair.  The Lord showed us healing and the opportunity for follow up with campers throughout the year.  8-year-old Donny was also added to His kingdom, as we look back at S.T. 2019 with much rejoicing, we have to give great praises and thanks to Almighty God and the blessings of King Jesus.  We have never been part of a camp with so many blessings and so much true shalom-peace.

As we rejoice in His glory and greatness and continue to seek the Lord’s will for S.T. 2020, it is also with very heavy hearts as we look back at 2019 and feel great lose… in May we were shocked to hear that Stephen Inthof, a fine young counsellor with S.T. had been taken home to be with Jesus.   We rejoice in the fact that we know Stephen has been called home to a place of no more pain and suffering.  Stephen had a huge impact with campers and staff especially last year when he was rock solid in a very tough situation with a troubled camper.  During my last conversation with Stephen as he was leaving at the end of camp; I was thanking him for his over top service and he told me all he wanted in life was to make people smile.  That he did plus so much more, so long brother, until we meet again.  We also grieve the loss of Carrol “Grandmother” Dobson in a tragic automobile accident just 5 days after camp, Carrol was a woman of great faith who was very artistic and enjoyed doing special things for people.  The Lord used her to lead young Donny to Himself just days before He took her home.  There will always be a special place in our hearts for a special prayer warrior who had a huge impact on so many.  We will also greatly miss a great man in the Lord Alex “Coach” Dean who for many years did all he could to serve at S.T.  The last few years due to physical restraints he was only able to bring his wife Dianne “Skittles” to camp and pick her up at the end of the week.  Which in itself was a true blessing and resulted in a huge impact at camp.  Coach made a difference in the lives of campers, always trying to point the way to Christ.  We rejoice in knowing that our loss of these 3 wonderful souls here on earth is a great gain in heaven and they are all with Jesus today and forever.

“We have fought the good fight, we have finished the race, we have kept the faith.” (2 Timothy 4:7).  Our prayers go up for their families at this time.

Love & Peace
